Everyone's favourite fireside sweet treat, these toffee apples will delight children and adults alike this bonfire night!
Ingredients
-
6 apples
-
300g of sugar
-
3 tbsp of golden syrup
Directions
First carefully soak the apples in boiling water for around 1 minute to remove their waxy residue and help the toffee stick better.
Push a wooden skewer through the top of each apple until it reaches the core. Alternatively use a fork if you don’t have any skewers.
Add the sugar to a medium-sized pan with the golden syrup and 5 tbsp of water swirling the water so it covers the sugar, but do not stir it.
Heat on a low heat until the sugar dissolves, then turn the heat up and boil the sugar syrup until it reaches 140°C on a sugar thermometer. Once again, make sure not to stir the caramel at any time, just swirl it around gently in the pan.
Once the sugar has reached temperature, work quickly to coat each apple, carefully dipping them into the hot mixture using the skewer and rotating the pan to get an even covering.
Decorate the apple anyway you like, using chopped nuts or sweets and chocolate, and leave to stand at room temperature for at least 30 minutes.
Enjoy!
